Hear from community-driven organizations – New Mexico Asian Family Center, and Pueblo Action Alliance – about some of their creative strategies for addressing shifting community needs and how they’ve continued to build partnerships, host events, and show up for others during times of isolation.

New Mexico Asian Family Center

New Mexico Asian Family Center (NMAFC) is an Albuquerque-based non-profit organization founded in 2006. NMAFC provides culturally sensitive programs and services, creating a Pan-Asian community that advocates for and supports itself.

Pueblo Action Alliance

Pueblo Action Alliance is a community driven organization that promotes cultural sustainability and community defense by addressing environmental and social impacts in Indigenous communities.

SACHI WATASE (Albuquerque, NM) is the Executive Director of New Mexico Asian Family Center. Watase is a Fulbright Scholar in Nepal and holds a Bachelor of Arts from Pitzer College where she co-founded student-led organizations that coordinated services and programming for survivors of sexual assault and people of mixed racial, ethnic, and cultural heritage.

REYES DEVORE (Jemez Pueblo) is the Community Programming Director of Pueblo Action Alliance. DeVore actively organizes events within the community to continue conversations about Environmental Justice and Social Impacts on Indigenous people. She has over 7 years experience working with marginalized communities by providing parent education on child development to break the cycles of trauma and build healthy relationships in the home. DeVore is a mother to a young son who ultimately drives her compassion to continue her life’s work.
