In September 2014, SFAI launched a new social justice thematic residency model with Food Justice as the inaugural programmatic focus. Over the course of 10 months, SFAI together with our residents and community partners investigated how diverse creative practices can confront some of the many social, cultural, and economic problems inherent in our food systems. These investigations garnered insights from the arts and critical theory as well as environmental sciences, sustainable agriculture, culinary arts, and food studies, and manifested in wide ranging resident projects.
