SFAI is committed to accessibility as an integral aspect of both diversity and inclusivity in all that we do.

SFAI has a zero-tolerance policy on discrimination and is deeply committed to fostering a culture of inclusion and equal opportunity for all persons regardless of race, sex, color, ethnicity, religion, spiritual beliefs, national origin, ancestry, age, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability.

SFAI welcomes constructive feedback about accessibility as an opportunity to address more ways of being inclusive.

Accessibility, Diversity, & Inclusion in Our Programming

  • SFAI has eliminated fees for our thematic residency program.
  • We work with individual donors, funders and institutional partners to provide stipends for all of our fellowship programs, as well as curators and content providers of SFAI public programming;
  • We conduct monthly resident orientations and annual staff and board training to review and implement SFAI values, ethical principles, and community agreements.

Facility Accessibility

  • Our facility is ADA compliant, in a single-story building without any steps, and with
    • Outdoor pathways that are paved and connect via ramps to accessible parking spaces at front and rear entrances;
    • Automatic door operators;
    • Barrier-free gallery, event, and common residential spaces (kitchen, dining room, lounge, laundry room, library, and interior courtyard); and
    • Two accessible rooms with enlarged living spaces, roll-in bathrooms/ showers with grab bars and benches, and second beds for personal care attendants, when needed.
  • Public bathrooms are gender-neutral.
  • We welcome service animals.
  • SFAI is in the process of increasing accessibility for our residents by purchasing a van with a wheelchair lift.

Event Accessibility

SFAI provides wheelchair seating at all of our events.

SFAI will, upon request, provide childcare, auxiliary aids, and translation services at SFAI events to ensure effective communication with and access to individuals with need to the fullest extent possible.
