Sheena Hoszko
Sheena Hoszko is a sculptor, anti-prison organizer, and Polish settler living and working in Tio’tia:ke / Mooniyaang / Montréal. Her art practice examines the power dynamics and violence of geographic, architectural, and psychological sites, and is informed by her family’s experiences with incarceration, the military, and mental illness. Hoszko employs strategies of post-minimalism to draw attention to inherent politics of space and material, and primarily uses rented and reusable materials (fencing, light) that reenter the world as non-art after a project is complete. Selected exhibitions include Fondation Phi and Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal (Montréal), A Space (Toronto), The New Gallery (Calgary), and Blackwood Gallery (Mississauga), La Ferme du Buisson (Paris). Hoszko presented at the Queens Museum (NYC) as part of Open Engagement, and has held residencies at the Santa Fe Art Institute (New Mexico), La Cité internationale des arts (Paris) and Villa Magdalena K (Hamburg). Her writing has appeared in M.I.C.E Magazine and within Free Inside: The Life and Work of Peter Collins.
