Jena H. Kim

Born in Busan, Korea, Jena H Kim received her BFA from The Cooper Union School of Art and Science and her MFA from Yale School Art. Upon graduation, Kim’s first major exhibition was at Queens Museum of Art for the show ‘Queens International’ in 2002. Following the Queens Museum of Art exhibition, she has received several awards in 2004, most notably the 8th KAFA(Korea Arts Foundation of America) Award given to Korean-American artists bi-annually. The award provided a grant and a solo exhibition in 2005 at Korean Cultural Center in Los Angeles, CA. Over the next decade following the KAFA Award exhibition, Kim has had solo exhibitions at Next Door Gallery in Seoul (2011) and Gallery Ho in New York (2012) and numerous group shows that continued to display site-specific wall installations. Highlights from group exhibitions include; Mushroom Arts, New York (2006), Museum of Art, Seoul National University, Seoul (2009), Cais Gallery, Seoul (2009), Tenri Gallery, New York (2010), Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul (2014), and Art Mora, New York (2015). Artist residencies that Kim has participated in are Smack Mellon Artist Studio Program in 2007, Santa Fe Art Institute Artist Residency Program in 2013 and Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Changdong International Residency Program in 2014. After returning from a six-month residency in Korea, Kim continues to live and work in New York City.
