Kate Watson-Wallace
Kate Watson-Wallace is an interdisciplinary artist who works at the intersection of choreography, installation, design, healing and social practice. Hailed for creating work where “wild imagination ruled,” by the New York Times, she has choreographed videos for St. Vincent, Panda Bear, Animal Collective, Black Dice & Xenia Rubinos. Recent Projects include: choreographing Grammy winner St. Vincent’s performance of “Los Ageless” on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert, movement direction for Alex Da Corte’s Rubber Pencil Devil at the Carnegie International and Venice Biennale, and The Sustainability Project, a collaboration with David Thomson researching the long term sustainability of artists in the U.S. This research builds upon her work as facilitator with Artists U, a project of Andrew Simonet’s. Recent premieres of her work include: Summerstage Central Park (NYC), and Redcat (LA). Her work has been funded by multiple Map Fund grants, Doris Duke Foundation/Creative Capital, Independence Foundation, Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation, and Pew Center for Arts & Heritage. She is a Pew Fellow in Choreography. She was a 2011 Fellow at The Yard, a 2015 resident artist at UCLA, a 2017 Artist Resident at the Skaftfell Center for Visual Art (Iceland), and a 2016-18 Movement Research AIR. Kate has been a guest artist at Pratt Institute, Massachusetts College of Arts and Design, University of Pennsylvania, UT Austin, Swarthmore College, University of the Arts, Moore College of Art and Design, and Colgate University. She holds an MFA in Studio Art from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
