gina young (she/they)

gina young (she/they) is an award-winning playwright, director, and interdisciplinary artist whose work queers content and form. Their plays and musicals include STRAIGHT PLAY (a queer beach blanket musical), BUTCH BALLET, sSISTERSs, and Femmes: A Tragedy. young’s stage work has been presented by The Hammer Museum, The Museum of Contemporary Art, REDCAT, Los Angeles Performance Practice, USC’s Visions & Voices Series, Highways Performance Space, and the Feminist Center for Creative Work, as well as nationally and internationally. Work for the screen includes ROOM TONE, starring A League of Their Own’s Roberta Colindrez, which is a winner and finalist at film festivals worldwide. young is the creator of SORORITY, a platform for new short works by women, trans, nonbinary, and queer performing artists in Los Angeles and beyond. They are also the creator of Feminist Acting Class, a radical experiment in eliminating bias from actor training, which she is in the process of adapting into a book. She is a member of The Dramatists Guild, The Kilroys, and the Ring of Keys, and is a Winner of the Jane Chambers Award for Playwriting, a two-time Finalist for Center Theatre Group’s Sherwood Award for boundary-pushing theatre artists, a Semifinalist for the Princess Grace Award, and a Winner of the Humanitas/PLAY LA Prize.
