Elizaveta Pavlovna Buzytsky

Coming from a lineage of makers, I was born in the former Soviet Union until my family was granted permission to leave for America before the end of the Cold War.

We ultimately landed in Washington State where I grew up. For years, I’ve made objects to commemorate experiences of transition, beginning with materials as physical evidence. I mine the meanings of these raw elements as a starting point, investigating their history and cultural relevance. I am in a constant process of learning about the relationships between people and their things: the making, history and interpretation of objects.

After collecting the material in mass, I determine a structure in the form of a screen, a frame, or a body. This framework is a boundary that invites play and freedom to occur organically. The combination of soft, malleable elements within a strong set of parameters births a new story and consciousness.
