Alex Simopoulos

Alex Simopoulos (Greece, 1990) is a multi-disciplinary artist and illustrator.He studied International relations and Humanitarian Law in Panteion University in Athens, School of International Studies, Communication and Culture, participated in the viewers program in the Athens School of Fine Arts and received an MA in Visual Arts and Illustration from Camberwell College of Arts with a scholarship from the University of the Arts London. He has worked with NGO’s, galleries and cultural institutions in Greece and abroad. His works span across both indoor and outdoor spaces. He has been on the forefront of the Greek urban art scene and exhibited solo in Athens, London and Malta (Plantarium, Esplora Science Centre Malta/ Zadig, Gallery Sarri 12 Athens/ Animistic Futurism, Vessel Athens/ Notions of the Afterlife, Genesis Gallery London) and in group shows in the UK, Mexico, Spain, USA and Greenland (Nuuk Museum, Greenland/ Besiktas International Festival, Turkey/ Loures Arte Publica, Portugal/ Onassis Cultural Centre, Greece etc). He has painted murals in various countries, from Spain and Germany, to Greenland and India. Travelling and exploring new localities is key for the evolution of his work. He is also interested in community engagement and participatory methodologies with local communities, residents or artists, craftsmen etc. In 2018 he was selected for the SNF Artist Fellowship Program and the Fulbright Artist Residency Award/ Fulbright Fellowship.
