Agnes Chavez
Agnes Chavez is Cuban-American interdisciplinary artist based in Taos, New Mexico. Since graduating from California College of Arts and Craft (now CCA) and studying holography in NYC, her work has been inspired by particle physics, nature and technology. Drawing is at the heart of Agnes’s art, yet always transformed by the emerging relationship between technology, science and nature.Agnes creates participatory environments with data visualization, sound and projections. She collaborates with programmers to create algorithmic drawings generated from data and projected in real time on to buildings, walls and spaces. This work explores our relationship with nature and technology, and how these and other sensory experiences determine how we perceive and interpret the world around us. These environments are designed to challenge our perceptual filters by allowing us to experience alternate ways of perceiving, experiencing and interpreting reality.
