PLATFORM: Engaging the Ethics of Production and Consumption

Platform events, held three times a year, bridge art and social engagement with interactive works and participatory experiences co-created by SFAI staff and artists-in-residence.
13 international, interdisciplinary artists explore the theme of Labor and attendees got a firsthand look at their in-progress and freshly completed works. In true Platform style, there was an opportunity to participate in works by residents May Maylisa Cat and Stacy Scibelli.

May Maylisa Cat replicates the act of meditative consumption by a livestream ASMR Mukbang performance blending virtual and real-time audience engagements that challenges the fantasy of globalism and playfully undermine capitalism’s problematic production, food conviviality, and the consumption of the cultural “Other.”

7:00 – 7:30pm
Designer Stacy Scibelli stages an interactive fashion show that invites audience members to self-style and try on variations of her one-of-a-kind modular clothing offering beautiful, functional and sustainable alternatives to industry standards that support large-scale consumer waste, environmental pollution, and inequitable and unsafe working conditions.

Stick around for an open dialogue with the artists and SFAI staff.

Audience members are encouraged to bring their own mobile devices (phones or tablets) for online engagement with the program.
