2021 Residency / Essential Information & Resources

CHECK-IN PROCEDURE

Click on maps to enlarge and print.

1. You must check-in on the first day of your residency between 8am and 8pm.
2. In lieu of using the main entrance, we have established a check-in spot on the west side of the building closer to the exterior doors of resident rooms. This is where you should park or get dropped off, to meet staff. The spot will be clearly marked a “check-in” sign.
3. Call (505) 303-0732 at least 30 minutes before you arrive and staff will meet you at this location.
4. SFAI staff will not be able to carry your luggage or other belongings. Please let staff know upon arrival if a cart would be helpful and we will bring one out to you.
5. Your keys will be provided in a secure lockbox attached to the handle on your exterior room door. Instructions for how to access the lockbox are provided on the interior cover and staff will be there to help you as needed.
Note

If you drive your own car or a rental car to SFAI, you will need to put a parking pass in the windshield. We will leave a parking pass on your desk in your room.

While the exterior building lights are automated, the interior building lights are not. To make getting around easier, we are providing you with a detailed map of the building interior that includes light switch locations. We have also posted enlarged versions of these maps throughout the building for your convenience.

It is also important to get in the habit of carrying your key set with you at all times, even inside the building, because all exterior doors will lock automatically behind you. If you happen to get locked out of your room, please call (505) 303-0732 and staff will direct you to a hidden lock box with a master key.

TRANSPORTATION OPTIONS

SFAI is located in midtown Santa Fe at 1600 St. Michael’s Drive (Building #31), just east of Cerrillos Road, on the Midtown Campus (formerly the Santa Fe University of Art and Design).

The best way to get to our building (#31) is via the main entrance to the former SFUAD campus on the south side of St. Michael’s Drive. Pass the welcome booth and at the T-intersection, turn right onto Alumni Drive. As you pass New Mexico Bank and Trust (on your right), the road will veer to the left (southwest). Continue straight (heading southwest) past Greer Garson Theater (Building #1), then a large parking lot, and finally the Visual Arts Center (Building #30). SFAI is the next building (#31) on your left, it has three pyramid shaped towers. If you pass the traffic circle you have gone too far. Park between the Visual Arts Center and SFAI and call (505) 303-0732 to let staff know you have arrived for check-in. Staff will meet you outside and show you to your room.
