I Sleep in a Garden of 100 Dresses / Cyndie Bellen Berthézène
I sleep in a garden of 100 dresses grows out of Evelyn Estes’ The Hundred Dresses, a 1944 children’s book in which art is the antidote to the effects of poverty on a child’s sense of self-worth.
Cyndie Bellen-Berthézène’s installation and performance, I sleep in a garden of 100 dresses revisits the drawing of one hundred dresses as a means to leave behind the voices of unfulfilled childhood promises. Through the drawings, integrated with photography, live performance, voice and text, I sleep in a garden of 100 dresses explores our somnambulistic, fragile way of moving forward.
The installation will open to the public / August 1 / 8am—8:30pm
Reception and live performances by the artist featuring the music of Bellini, Judy Collins and others / August 2 / 7:15 & 7:45pm
The event is free and open to the public
