SFAI Writers in Residence Special Reading

Please join us for a special reading by the current SFAI Writers in Residence

From Jerusalem, Palestine, Najwan Darwish, a Beirut39 poet is considered to be one of the most important Arab writers under the age of 40. His writing has been translated into over 10 languages. Composer and sound artist, Steve Peters will read the English translations of Najwan’s poems. You can read more about Najwan here.
From Seattle, Washington, Denise Gantt, is an accomplished poet and playwright; she has received several awards for her writing, including the Theatre Project Outstanding Vision in Theatre award; and the 1997 Artscape Best Play Contest, as well as the Maryland Emerging Writers Award for her collection of poetry in 2003.
From Brooklyn, New York, Alexandra Kleeman, recently received an MFA in Creative Writing from Columbia University, and also holds a master’s degree in Rhetoric from UC Berkeley. Her work has appeared in The Paris ReviewZoetrope, andConjunctions.
Each writer will read for 15 minutes, followed by an Open Mic.
