The Santa Fe Art Institute and KSFR 101.1FM are proud to announce the inaugural event of the newly created Jazz in the Courtyard Series!
The musicians for the August 15 performance are Brian Bennett – Piano, Michael Olivola – Bass, John Trentacosta – Drums, with Special Guest: Trumpet Player Bobby Shew.
A native New Yorker, drummer and Straight Up leader John Trentacosta brought his collective big band and small group experience to New Mexico in 1992. After two decades as the rhythm force behind jazz notables Chuck Wayne, Jimmy Knepper, and the Al Porcino big band, John brought new energy to the New Mexico jazz scene. in 1993 Trentacosta formed formed the jazz group Straight Up, and has since become the energy behind the group’s busy concert schedule and the two CD releases “Live Jazz in The Desert” and “No Need For Words.”
Special Guest Bobby Shew
Bobby is a historic figure in Jazz because of his artistic approach to solo trumpet, big band trumpet, recordings and education. He has performed with the likes of Louie Bellson, Benny Goodman, Maynard Ferguson, and Bob Florence. He has performed a great deal of studio work including T.V. shows like “Happy Days” and the “Mary Tyler Moore Show” as well as movie soundtracks including “Grease I and II” and “Taxi”. Mr. Shew also is an extremely active clinician giving workshops constantly in the United States and abroad.
