Falon Baltzell

Falon Baltzell, a native Mississippian, is a dance artist who enjoys teaching others about her fascination with minimalistic design and movement limitations. Baltzell has collaborated with national and international artists, such as Pooja Kumar Shyam for the India Festival USA in Independence, Ohio. Her collaboration with Shyam included fusing ballet technique with Bharatanatyam to create a thematic presentation embodying the transcultural unity of faiths. Baltzell was honored to be invited by the World Dance Alliance-Americas to teach a Choreography Lab for conference participants at the 2015 WDA Conference in Hawaii. At the conference, Baltzell created a site-specific piece for four dancers, “Ohana,” and she also created and performed a site-specific solo, “Desktop Reverie 2”. Baltzell was the recipient of a 2014 Teacher Fellowship at Bates Dance Festival, where she learned from educators Stephan Koplowitz, David Dorfman, Kim Konikow Green, and others. She was honored with a 2013 Graduate Assistant Fellowship, and six consecutive summer-study scholarship for the Bill Evans Teachers’ Intensive. Baltzell has studied with Bill Evans, Maura Keefe, Karl Rogers, Jim Hansen, and former Trisha Brown dancer Mariah Maloney, among others. She has performed for James Hansen Assemblage Dance, Bill Evans Dance Company, The Movement Project, and her own work in Baltzell Dance. Baltzell is certified in the Evans Technique, holds a K-12 Teacher Licensure, received her BFA in Dance Education and MFA in Performance and Choreography. She has taught choreography and modern dance technique during American College Dance Festivals at Penn State and Hofstra University. Baltzell has presented scholarly research in Mississippi, and Western NY including: Theoretical Negotiations: Spatial Landscape as an Elaborate Illusion or Distilled Vision.
