Tracy Fenix

Tracy Fenix is a queer native Tejana who recently graduated from the University of Southern California’s dual degree Master of Urban Planning / Master of Art and Curatorial Practices in the Public Sphere program in August 2023. Tracy’s research examines the cultural and historical legacies of queer Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) in the built and imagined environment. Tracy’s recent graduate exhibition (July 2023) and now ongoing mapping project, “Mud Kin,” focuses on mapping adobe and land art projects led by indigenous and Latinx artists throughout the CA & Southwest region. Mud Kin participating artists include Joanna Keane Lopez, Jose Villalobos, William Carmago, Arlene Mejorado, Ronald Rael, Ozzie Juarez, Camille Hoffman, Carlos Jaramillo, and others.

Tracy currently works simultaneously for CAAM to support with exhibition project management  and the City of Los Angeles’ Public Arts team where they work creative research & policy development support for the new Community Regenerative Art Program, an indigenous ecologically-led city-wide initiative to support artistic residency projects in city-owned, former Redevelopment spaces. Previously, they were the Artist Engagement and Archive Manager at Visual AIDS in New York City for three years (2018-21) where they built up the Archive Project and Artist+ Registry to a successful Andrew W. Mellon Community-based Archives grant. Tracy began their curatorial career at Wave Hill, Bronx, NY where they provided curatorial assistance on the Outcasts: Women in the Wilderness and Jackie Brookner: Of Nature exhibitions from 2016-17. Fenix was a recent Summer 2022 Fellow at the Times Square Alliance supporting the new Charles Gaines’ American Manifest Project and unified public art and urban planning research initiatives. Fenix recently co-curated ONE Archives “Days of Rage” queer poster exhibition with USC Professor Andy Campbell and Austen Villacis in May 2022.
