Sydney Cooper
Sydney Cooper, was born in Los Angeles, where she was influenced profoundly by the unique mix of culture and subcultures present in the hybrid hot house that is and was southern California. Cooper received her Bachelor of Arts from Bennington College. She has lived, worked and studied in New York, Los Angeles, Paris, and Tokyo when she realized her life sounded like a fancy shopping bag she settled in Chimayo New Mexico, then Santa Fe, and now the center of the universe Jacona NM! Cooper has exhibited widely, including the Santa Monica Museum in California, the Center for Contemporary Art in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Allied Cultural Prosthetics in New York City as well as other galleries and venues. She has Curated and co-organized many site-specific public installations such as the Windows Project in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Bloc-Busta in New Mexico, and Wallworks at Plan B: Evolving Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Cooper Curated NM10:DISPERSION, an exhibition at CINEMALAND, Chinatown, Los Angeles. She created a collaborative work “Constellation” for Wonderland a site-specific show of art commissioned for the Tenderloin neighborhood of San Francisco. She also performed a site specific work for Pacific Standard Time; Art in L.A.- Performance and Public art festival. She has restored 4 historic Adobes working on her 5th, receiving a historic preservation award from the Santa Fe Historic foundation. Sydney has raised two Artists Sachiko Cooper Da Silva and Lucio Isao Cooper Da Silva, Cooper lives and works in Jacona, New Mexico.
