Pezeshki + Cardozo

Mehregan Pezeshki (b. 1986, Tehran), an Iranian American multidisciplinary queer artist based in the United States, focuses on photography, video, and performance. Her work, often autobiographical, explores traumatic memories of her youth in Iran, challenging societal norms and inviting viewers to reconsider their interactions. Pezeshki holds degrees from the Cultural Heritage University of Tehran and the University of Texas at Austin, with an MFA from the California Institute of the Arts.

Joana P. Cardozo (b. 1979, Sao Paulo) is a Brazilian visual artist based in Los Angeles whose practice is deeply rooted in rituals and spirituality. Exploring themes of mortality, domesticity, and identity, she works across photography, mixed media, installation, and performance. Cardozo’s recent exhibitions include Lois Lambert Gallery (Santa Monica), Helen J Gallery (Los Angeles), and Rencontres d’Arles (France). She has received support from The Foundation for Contemporary Arts, Santa Monica Cultural Affairs, and The New York Foundation for the Arts, among others. She is represented by Koslov Larsen in Houston and holds an MFA from the California Institute of the Arts (2022).

Both artists’ practices are deeply intertwined with the pillars of feminism, addressing issues of agency, representation, and empowerment. Cardozo and Pezeshki have collaborated on impactful performances that challenge conventions and offer nuanced reflections on contemporary issues, fostering dialogue and empathy within their audiences.
