Carlos Garcia

Carlos Garcia, born in Taos, NM, fell in a ditch one night and found his way home by tricycle. The next morning he began to draw. 40 years later he’s still drawing, but has exchanged his tricycle for traveling the world. The exploration of other cultures and landscapes deeply inform his work; having always been a visual processor, his pieces are often notes on or explorations of human moments. His work spans ink, paint, colored pencil, community works, and the culinary arts. Carlos has a B.A. from Pacific University in Portland OR, a Masters in Visual Arts from La Católica in Quito Ecuador, and spent 13 years teaching art to at-risk youth in Northern New Mexico. He enjoys the potential of detail with colored pencil; the rigor of the work, the precision and texture of it. The grains of the wood absorb the pigment in different ways and give almost a ghost of the image within the image; each is unique. He continues to explore the globe with a pencil in one hand and cast-iron skillet in the other.
