Andrés Senra
Andrés Senra is a transdisciplinary artist, educator, and curator. His latest works explore identity as a fluid process, presenting queer, non-binary, and gender fluid utopian communities through sci-fi narratives. These identities fluctuate as political and ecological assemblages of human and nonhuman, human-technology entanglements. He critically reviews post-humanism via speculative fiction, defending the monster, hybridization, and post-gender politics.
Previously, Senra addressed LGBTIQ+ homelessness, Climate Change, and the creation of a queer archive. His art projects empower different communities in public spaces, engaging with migration and utopia. Currently, he’s focused on “Queer Futurism,” proposing utopian queer worlds beyond the cis-heteropatriarchal norm, fostering alliances with the planet.
His artworks have been showcased globally, including Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, CA2M, Hosek Contemporary, and Art Center Nabi. Senra has received grants like the Art Creation Grant of Madrid Region, “Multiverso Videoart Grant” from BBVA Foundation, and “Fase 7 Mobility Art Grant” from AECID. He’s won awards such as the “Casa Velázquez Award for Art Creation at Estampa 2009” and the “Region of Madrid Award for Art Creation” in 2008.
In 2023, Senra was an artist in residency at the LMCC Arts Center on Governors Island. His impactful career demonstrates a commitment to pushing boundaries and fostering inclusivity in the art world.
