Gina Palacios

Gina Gwen Palacios is interested in highlighting an underrepresented geographic and cultural narrative, specifically the people and land from South Texas, near the Mexican border. Her artistic practice is based on research and reflection of her Latino family history, personal narrative and America’s current political climate. This interdisciplinary artist investigates multiple levels of representation through imagery and the use of traditional and non-traditional materials. Gina was born in Taft, Texas and received her AA in Radio/Television from Del Mar College, a BA in TV/Film from Texas A&M Corpus Christi and a MA in Instructional Technology from the University of Texas at Austin. Gina’s career has spanned working in television news, corporate training, web design and later in academia. Before pursuing her artistic practice full time, Gina was lead faculty in Web Design & Interactive Media at The Art Institute of Austin and then moved on to become an Instructional Technology Specialist at The University of Texas at Austin. Recently, Gina received a Studio Art Post-Baccalaureate Certificate from Brandeis University and is currently completing her MFA in Painting from The Rhode Island School of Design.
