Re-Centering Santa Fe / Social Structures
LEARN MORE
This installation exhibition has been extended through February 19, 2021. From December 21, 2020 through January 18, 2021, the exhibition will be on display across the Midtown Site as part of SFAI’s Re-Centering Santa Fe programming. Re-Centering Santa Fe is a series of creative interventions on the Midtown Site that consider our connections to this place and one another. The interventions are intended to transform the Midtown Site into a platform for much-needed community dialogues that collectively engage the social imagination of what a thriving and equitable midtown Santa Fe may look like.
As COVID-19 case numbers mount, we are continually reminded that we are all interconnected. Our decisions impact families across Santa Fe as our paths cross in public spaces, even if we don’t always recognize each other with our masks on. Our community has shown that we care deeply and feel for people we don’t know personally by gathering food, medication, and art supplies, organizing shelter, and changing our behaviors to protect those at higher risk of illness. These connections were there before COVID-19 and will continue after, but this moment has emphasized their importance.
Funded in part through the City of Santa Fe Arts and Culture Department’s CARES Act funding, the Social Structures exhibition invites the public to adhere to COVID Safe Practices while walking the Midtown Site, viewing the installations and digital pieces, and reflecting on the ways in which we are interconnected as a community that cares for one another.

As SFAI navigates these uncertain times, we face new fiscal challenges. We are seeking support for this programming and ongoing operational costs — a portion of these donations will go to participating artists.
