Exhibition Opening May 6, 5-7PM /  Exhibition on View May 6-27

Nicaraguan artist Luis Garay is the author and illustrator of eight books exploring Central American history and myth, and their intersection with contemporary Latin American identity politics. Garay’s works on Quetzalcoatl and Popol Vuh will be on view, in addition to illustrations from his children’s book on immigration, The Long Road. In the book, he chronicles the emigration experience of mother and child forced to flee their home due to civil war. Join us for this exciting exhibition exploring themes of transnational immigration & sacred myths of Mesoamerica.

Luis Garay was born in 1965 in Granada, Nicaragua. Costa Rica was Luis’ home from 1983 until 1988, when he emigrated to Toronto, Canada, to develop his career as an artist. He has been called one of the best young Latin American illustrators working today. In addition to other awards, his book The Long Road received the award for Best International Illustrated Children and Young Adult Book of the Year, and the Achievement Award from the Institute of Nicaraguan Culture.
