Lee Emma Running

Lee Emma Running creates installations and drawings. Her work investigates form and pattern found in the natural world. Recent projects look at systems and structures that are similar in micro and macroscopic scale, such as the way the veins in a leaf mimic those in our bodies as well as a river system seen from space.Running is currently an Associate Professor at Grinnell College and is a core member of The Moving Crew Artists Collective. She received her MFA in Sculpture from the University of Iowa in 2005, and a Graduate Certificate in Book arts from the University of Iowa Center for the Book in that same year. She received her BFA in Sculpture from Pratt Institute in 1999. She has exhibited nationally and internationally at venues including: The Des Moines Art Center, Des Moines, IA, the Charlotte Street Foundation, Kansas City, MO, Tacoma Contemporary, Tacoma WA, The Urban Institute for Contemporary Art, Grand Rapids, MI, and Pyramid Atlantic Gallery, Washington DC.
