Jan Olsson

Jan is a native of the American Southwest. In 1980 she moved to Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley to join the Fine Arts faculty at Mary Baldwin College. During her tenure at Mary Baldwin, Jan completed three residencies at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, France. During her final residency at the Cité, Jan began to exhibit in Paris and received critical attention from the international press. Her paintings were shown in three of Paris’s juried salons including the most respected Salon de Montrouge. In 1990 the offer of a permanent studio at La Ruche, one of Paris’s most well-known artist’s colonies, was instrumental in Jan’s decision to return to France. La Ruche is now home to the “Queen Bee”, the intaglio press where Jan prints etchings, monotypes, and collagraphs. She paints and teaches in a second studio near the Seine, adjacent to the Parc André Citroën.
