SFAI SEEKS NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
The Santa Fe Art Institute (SFAI) is an independent arts organization forging critical inquiry and cultural exchange among artists, creative practitioners, and the broader community. We amplify artistic practices that engage complex social issues, inspire individual transformation, and inform collective action. Through our thematic residency, workshops, and public events, SFAI supports more than 50 artists, activists, and creative practitioners annually. Most recently, SFAI is leading the development of the Midtown Arts District Alliance (MADA), a groundbreaking initiative that unites local and regional arts, education, and social service organizations to create a vibrant, multicultural hub in the heart of Santa Fe.
In 2025, SFAI will celebrate its 40th anniversary, a transformational moment. We are seeking a dynamic Executive Director to refresh and reimagine our residency program and community-engaged arts events, strengthen our operations, and position SFAI as a leading voice at the intersection of art and social justice locally, nationally, and internationally.
THE POSITION
The SFAI Executive Director shapes the organizational vision, values, and culture; sets and executes strategy; drives fundraising efforts and diversifies funding streams; manages the budget; engages community partners, including donors; supervises the program, fund development, and operations staff and consultants; and collaborates with the Board of Trustees in forward thinking to ensure the stability, and sustainability of the organization.
As SFAI approaches its 40th anniversary, and continues to evolve, this is an extremely exciting time to join, lead and influence the next phase of the organization’s growth, cultural and social diversity, and to develop new income streams for the long-term sustainability and success of SFAI.
As an ideal candidate, you:
- Believe that creative practice can change the world
- Think strategically and innovatively
- Communicate thoughtfully
- Collaborate deeply with the Board of Trustees, staff, and key partners
- Inspire and motivate others to work toward a common vision, mission, and goals
- Maximize talent, energy, and resources
- Champion diversity, equity, inclusion, access and belonging
- Build and nurture authentic relationships with donors, foundations, and key stakeholders
- Shift revenue generation from dependence on grant funding to more earned income strategies
Your leadership will be instrumental in navigating opportunities and challenges, ensuring SFAI’s impact and relevance now and in the future.
