The Santa Fe Art Institute is proud to announce that it has been awarded a $50,000 grant by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
The NEA awarded grants to 631 nonprofit arts groups around the country, totaling $29.775 million. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) provided money to be distributed in direct grants to fund arts projects and activities which preserve jobs in the nonprofit arts sector threatened by declines in philanthropic and other support during the current economic downturn. Forty percent of such funds were distributed to State arts agencies and regional arts organizations and sixty percent of the funds were competitively awarded to nonprofit organizations that met the eligibility criteria established for this program. The SFAI was awarded one of these competitive grants.
The SFAI will use the funds to pay visiting artist’ honoraria and to re-fill a position in the Youth Education and Outreach program which has remained unfilled since late 2008 as a result of reduced funding.
