We are  pleased to present the inaugural SFAI DESIGN WORKSHOP 2014 for rising 10th, 11th and 12th graders. At its core, this six-week design/build summer intensive will explore the question of how we can work collaboratively to change the world. SFAI DESIGN WORKSHOP 2014 will be project-based, and will provide participants with mentorship, an introduction to design thinking, making skills, and creative community engagement. Participating youth and instructors will partner with a local organization to examine a pressing problem that exists within the community and explore how design can help provide solutions. SFAI DESIGN WORKSHOP 2014 will expose participants to the design studio, and will explore social and cultural issues related to architecture and the built environment. The curriculum will embrace fundamental concepts of design thinking such as empathy, discovery, interpretation, and experimentation.

SFAI DESIGN WORKSHOP 2014 will run from JUNE 9 through JULY 17, 2014, Mondays through Thursdays, from 9 am to 4 pm. Cost for the entire program is $1545, and includes a deposit of $300 due within two weeks of acceptance. Applicants must be able to attend the workshop in its entirety. If you are applying for financial aid, please attach a copy of your family’s 2012 tax return, and please attach a statement of need.

No prior design or construction experience is required. We are looking for students who are passionate, creative, and committed to changing the world.
